All In A Day’s Work

I’m starting to feel a little better about how things are shaping up in the kitchen. The weekend work resulted in doors, drawers, and hardware going on the cabinets.

So after a much needed nap on my reclaimed basement sofa (previously home to the 80 flats and miscellaneous packages that have been transformed into cabinets), the migration of displaced kitchen goods began. Since there’s no sink yet in the kitchen, everything had to be hauled to the basement, rinsed in the utility sink, dried, hauled back upstairs, and put away.

We went with a slightly different cabinet configuration than what we had so I think it’s going to take a while for me to really figure out where everything goes. Poor SFC, he’s not going to know where anything is when he comes home.

    1. Beth, as you know there’s only so much you can do with these rowhouse kitchens. Did your cabinets come in 80 IKEA boxes too? The best things we did was put in a small dishwasher (18 inches wide y’all) and the deep drawers on the bottom instead of cabinets. They are wonderful.

  1. I want a new kitchen. But it will be years before that happens. Because the basement is being remodeled right now. Well, every couple months something happens to it.

  2. I love kitchen design (so does my hubby…that’s what he does for a living) and can’t wait to see the finished product! You will be so happy you went to all the trouble!

    1. Kristin, the after photos are coming soon. If I could do it all again, I would not choose stainless steel appliances or the side by side fridge/freezer. After living with them for about two years, they are not the best fit for me. But overall, every bit of dust and dollar was worth it.
