In preparation for my trip to see the parents, I’m working on a list of recipes to make while I’m there, getting the car checked out, digging out the shorts and flip flops, and figuring how many Diet Cokes it will take me to drive from Maryland to Florida. I’m also loading up the iPod with new music because every road trip deserves a soundtrack. So here’s my question, what songs should be on this mix? Old songs, new songs, whatever. I’d love to get your recommendations for my Sunshine State Playlist.
Funny you mention this, Ihave a cd that the spouse made for me a while ago when we still lived by the sea er ocean. it has lots of (YES) Beach boys and Eagles and Jackson Browne and “I Shot the Sheriff” ( my fave childhood song) as well as more modern stuff……but it has to have songs that mention SUN and having fun and feeling the sun on your shoulders and the blood singing in your veins and just being glad to be alive and on the road to an adventure,
Since you are driving take KOTS of pictures and please do not turn your back on the palmetto cactus in South Carolina. They BITE!
Shorts and flip flops sounds like a plan. Need I tell you ihave been in these for about 3 weeks now?

Emily, I can only imagine what your drive to Texas would have been like had the spouse been in the truck with you. I make it a rule not to subject passengers to my “singing”!
The Cure, every road trip needs that. Anything from a John Hughes film too!
Lara, check and check.
My line of thought for road trip music is anything that makes you want to roll the windows down and sing along with at the top of your lungs. So really, anything goes. Be it Journey, Snoop or CCR.
Boo, my guilty pleasures and I thank you. They don’t get to see the light of day often enough.
I agree with the comment that you need something you can really sing a long to. You need singing energy to get yourself all the way to Florida!
And on the diet coke front, don’t drink too many, because those exits are few and far between in stretches of those southern states!
The last time I drove to Florida, I was 20, had a fake id, and was squished in Chevy Cavalier with four other people. There was no singing but there was a late night stop at South of the Boarder.
This trip I’m 38, no longer get carded for anything, and have a much more comfortable ride. But I think another stop at South of the Boarder is in order!
Haven’t been to South of the Border since I was a kid ..ok 18…but it always lends a special something to the drive to Myrtle Beach.
I sort of planned the solo drive to Texas for that purpose…not being deafened by the time we got there Not to mention having the dog “sing” along on the high notes!
If I hadn’t been able to convince him that I was perfectly capable of handling the trip there would have been a run on duct tape at our local hardware store BELIEVE IT!
