Flashback Friday

Fast Food @ Home

This week has not been my best in the kitchen.  All the hubbub and activity of late has me off my game.  My pantry and fridge are not adequately stocked for the meals I had planned.  Somehow I overlooked a fundamental part of meal planning – making sure I have the ingredients for what I intend to make.  I don’t mean things that I can fudge like an onion or spices.  That would be too easy.  I mean that if I figure on making hamburgers, it would be helpful to actually have ground beef. 100 Things…Let Me Count The Ways

My own cooking isn’t serving up much inspiration at the moment, so I’m going to steal a page out of Perfection Salad’s playbook and see if I make the grade on the local food scene.  The list was compiled by readers of the Baltimore Sun’s Dining @ Large Food Blog.  Let’s see how many of these items I can cross off that list…I’ve lived in or around Baltimore my entire life but I think I may still have some work ahead of me.

  1. Have a jumbo lump crab cake from Faidley’s on a Saltine. I am substituting G&M for Faidley’s, so what?  It’s still a ginormous crab cake.
  2. Pick steamed hard shells at Mr. Bill’s Terrace Inn in Essex. I’m sure this was SUPPOSED to read at Bo Brook’s back when it was on Belair Road.
  3. Eat Bertha’s mussels.
  4. Drink a Natty Boh.
  5. Snack on a Berger’s cookie. Can I get double points since I’ve also made these? Continue reading “100 Things…Let Me Count The Ways”

I Heart Bacon But

image from istockphoto.com

Even I don’t think I would part with cold, hard, cash for most of the bacon lovin’ items on Elizabeth Large’s recent Top 10 List on The Baltimore Sun.

Bacon flavored lip balm is an accident waiting to happen y’all.  I hope the company that makes it has a healthy liability policy.

BLT scented candles are just mean.  Unless of course, a real BLT makes an appearance on a plate in front of me.  Otherwise, it’s a big tease.

However, I would totally get down with having bacon delivered to my doorstep every month.  And I imagine the dogs, cats, and other less domestic city critters that run free through my ‘hood wouldn’t mind either.

And I just don’t know what to say about this.  It looks like an accident just waiting to happen.  I don’t think my love of bacon needs to come into the bedroom.
